Mango Lovin’

by Cait @ Beyond Bananas on April 4, 2012

Happy Wednesday! Thanks for all of your kind words and well wishes with regards to my ugly stomach!!  None of them went unnoticed and I am going my best to respond to each of you because you are so sweet!

It has been a while since I have joined Jenn’s Party!  I have stayed away from What I Ate Wednesday for a bit because.. I eat a lot of the same old things.. and I figured you were tired of seeing those things Wednesday.. after Wednesday!

Now – I am not saying that I’ve completely revolutionized my meals, but I’ve had a few new things lately (semi new?) and I thought I’d join What I Ate Wednesday again this week!

Breakfast lately has been uneventful and.. well.. boring. I have been enjoying a protein shake after my workouts however…

Yep. Straight up protein. I’ve been using a combination of Sunwarrior Vanilla and Fit Frappe Vanilla Latte.. mixed with water. I used to always have protein shakes after I worked out and then they kind of faded away. I am bringing them back because I am really working to get protein into my diet!

Lunch .. included mangos. Because I love mangos.  This love is new, but it is rather deep!

A  turkey sandwich with sliced mangos, mustard, and a little but of shredded cheese.. pressed of course on the Forman Grill!  On the side, some plain 0% Fage mixed with Espresso Fit Frappe Protein Powder and a glob of Almond Butter!

Dinner included mango as well. I used some more of the mango I had cut up at lunch and turned it into a Mango-Chicken Quesadilla!!

This was an INCREDIBLY easy meal to make! I marinated about 4oz of chicken with some pepper and Caribbean Jerk seasoning.. with a little lemon juice as well.

After letting that marinate for about an hour, I cooked the chicken on the stove and once it was cooked, I added about 1/4 c. diced Mango.  (I would have added some onions as well.. but we were out.).  After heating the mango, I put it all on a La Tortilla Factory Whole Wheat Tortilla with some shredded Mexican Cheese. Of course, I heated mine on the Foreman Grill..and then topped it with some Greek Yogurt. SO GOOD!

I drink I have been enjoying lately is Orange Vanilla Seltzer.  I saw it for the first time last week.. and it tastes like a Creamsicle. (A very unsweetened one.. but still.. it is yummy nonetheless!)

Snack I’ve been digging lately is the Honey Graham Clif Z Bar.  These have been great as an afternoon snack at work.. and hold me over until after my workout!!!

And while this isn’t everything I’ve been eating.. the other stuff would likely bore you!! So we can just skip the pictures!!

I need to get more protein in. Do you like the Sun Warrior? Trying to find a good protein powder. Thanks!

Sunwarrior definitely tastes a little chalky. I don’t really like it all alone.. but if I mix it with another protein powder I am all set. I think I am going to order the chocolate next time and see how I like that.

Sunwarrior definitely has AWESOME nutritional stats though – which is something that draws me to it!

If you are looking to mix it in smoothies and oatmeal and things like that.. then it is definitely a great pick!

I have just started to drink protein shakes but I have to blend them with other food. When I just mix the protein powder with water, it never blends enough and it tastes terrible, I can never get it down. When I add a banana or spinach in the mix, it is way easier to drink.

I definitely agree that it can be more manageable when mixed with other foods! I think it is all about finding the protein powder that works for you, as well! There are so many different kinds out there!

I don’t think I’ve ever included a mango in a smoothie. That needs to change!!

I just started up with protein shakes again after lifting trying to get some more protein in my diet too. My recent obsession is choc protein + cocoa powder + coconut milk + 1/2 banana. If you’re feeling crazy 1/2 a little square of dark chocolate blended in at the end. YUM.

Mmm! That sounds good! I am just doing it straight up right now and haven’t gotten sick of it.. yet. But I will totally keep this mix in the mind for when I inevitably get sick of protein powder and water…

I’ve just recently started adding protein shakes back into my diet as well! I’ve missed them! I’m usually not too hungry early morning so they’re the perfect breakfast to get something in me, without being too heavy! Yet the dose of protein keeps me fine till my mid morning snack!
