Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

by Cait @ Beyond Bananas on August 30, 2011

Good morning, friends!! Happy Tuesday for ya!!

It is happy, isn’t it?  If not – then just take a quick look at this video. It is one of my favorites and always makes me chuckle:

Gah. NOOOOOOOOOOO-OO-OOO! Love lovve!!!

Speaking of LOVE – another big shout to ya’ll for your conitnued tweets, comments, etc on our engagement

Which brings me to the topic of CHANGE.

I am sure you have already noticed a few changes on my blog – as far as post output goes.  I have cut back to posting one time a day. It is making my life a LOT less stressful – and is something that needs to be done.  I want to ensure that I always love blogging.. (aka I don’t want to burn out – like I did in soccer).

Additionally.. school has was supposed to start Monday.  It didn’t.  It didn’t start today either.  Hoping it will start tomorrow – because I am SO excited to meet my new students!! SO – my job comes first and blogging comes second. I think I can manage one post a day – so that is that.

Hopefully you will continue to read, love, and enjoy my posts on Beyond Bananas.

Which brings me to the second facet of change.

Some of you may know … I am getting MARRIED :) … and I totally plan on keeping you guys in the loop as I plan my little booty away!

So far, I have been checking out a lot of sites

The Knot

 WeddingChannels

Style Me Pretty

CT Wedding Reports

And pinning away to my heart’s content on pinterest!  (Okay.. so I am still working on this…)

I am in the first group with regards to marriage amongst my friends – and I’ve never been in a wedding before – so I am really diving into this head first.. and blind. Ouch.

So – helpful pointers are always greatly appreciated!! I am hoping to keep my planning as relaxed as possible – (and as you can see I haven’t hesitated to get going!!!

(And with today off, I am going to follow up with some potential reception sites and contact my church :) )

My wedding planning advice would be to decide with you fiancé what are the most important items – ours were good food, wine and a beautiful location. So thats what we splurged on. Everything else we tried to be conservative with.

The other thing that worked really well for me was that the location of my wedding was seriously stunning – it was outdoors next to a vineyard in Napa. With such a beautiful location I didn’t need to add much to it decor wise, and was able to keep thing simple!

I liiiiiiived for The Knot. I got so many wedding ideas from there it was insane! I was in a wedding just 2 months before my own, but I didn’t have a lot to do for her wedding, but for my own – the only thing I can suggest is give yourself TONS of time to figure out what you like (and trust me, it might change a time…or two) and delegate. The people you choose to have in your wedding party are there to help, so use them!!

I did a lot myself just from finding ideas on website, and it’s totally doable :) good luck!!!!

I get all giddy when I read about your wedding. that is so weird.

Sadly I didn’t find out about the knot until we (my mom) was almost done planning my wedding. My sister & my mom try to tell me I was bridezilla, but I totally was not!

I only had one, er, two melt downs in the dressing room at David’s Bridal. but one was an all out, sitting on the floor crying because I hated the dress I bought (ROFL, for real)..

Our wedding was really laid back, and relaxed.

Have you picked a date? I knwo you’ve only been engaged for like 15 seconds, but whatever. Colors? theme? OMG I’m excited for you. lol. again, that is so weird.

We have 3 dates in mind for next summer – but I REALLY like this certain reception hall – so that is why I have 3 dates – so hopefully I can book there! I also have 3 possible colors schemes. Haha. As for themes.. so not sure .. haven’t given much thought to it. BUT I do have invitations/save the dates and all that jazz (one for each of my possible colors … a lighter pink/corally color, light purple, or light green.. hahah).

I want to have the place set before I totally decide the color – just incase it will totally clash with whatever they have on their walls!

I’m so excited to read all about your wedding planning as you go! Such an awesome time in your life.

I used to post several times a day, and it was just too much for me. I totally agree that doing the once a day thing is much more sustainable with a full time job and the other responsibilities that life throws at us!

I think you should definitely do what makes you less stressed and focus on your wedding, like you’ve been doing. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for that!

Congrats! I’m the first to get married in my group of friends also. Totally wish I had pinterest when I was trying to decide on themes/style/colors. But I love the knot! Their pictures were very helpful :)

I’d recommend getting a wedding planning book, from any bookstore. Especially one that breaks it down month by month. Mine has been extremely helpful!

I was the first in my group of friends to get married too so I had no help or input and it was tough! You will get TONS of advice in the coming months so I’ll try not to be too preachy but a few things:
-Milk trying on dresses for as long as you can. It’s fun and the only time you ever get to do it! (I wish I hadn’t bought mine so early on!)
-Try not to let you family get under your skin. It will happen, no doubt.
-Do what YOU GUYS want. it’s your day :)
-Looking back on all the vendors and all the $ we spent, my one regret is my photography. I absolutely hate it. It was my husband’s family friend and we didn’t really have a “choice” but it is the one thing you get to keep with you after the day so make sure you have someone you LOVE. When I look at people’s photos today, I seriously still get so mad to the point of tears I hate mine so much.

Hooray!! So happy to have other bloggers planning their weddings so we can all take notes/calm each other down. ;)

The very first thing we did, believe it or not, was pick out our potential dates and then we tackled wedding venue AND photographers at the same time. Our date ended up being a function of a venue and a photographer we loved having the same date open which worked out perfectly. People book up FAST, and I’m so glad we did those things first.

So excited to see what ideas you have!

Ok Gina and I are so on the same page with this but spend the $$ on the pictures. We ended up using a friend of the family and we really didn’t even get a discount yet we waited AGES for pictures and I am SO not happy with them :( BLAH.

I was actually the first of pretty much all of our friends to be married and we were super young (read: stupid), but I won’t lie, it was one of the best days and evenings of my life. I didn’t care about much (although I guess I should have cared more about the photographer) so my planning was relatively laid back.

Here are some things I took away:
-Do what you want. You (hopefully) won’t get to do it again. No regrets.
-Everyone is going to ask you to do things their way. See #1. And remember, there is no way to please every one. I tried…it’s not possible nor worth it.
-All those super important details (like the perfect color for the ribbon or card holder) really won’t matter as much. So don’t sweat the small stuff (I had panic attacks about my invitations etc)
-Make sure that you tag someone who’s super awesome to plan your shower and bachelorette. Those were among my top 5 days and nights.

I’m sure I could say more…but you’re probably already overwhelmed lol
