I bought …

by Cait @ Beyond Bananas on August 11, 2011

Something big. Something I had no intention on buying yesterday. Something I really just planned on browsing through… getting a feel for what I wanted.

But let’s keep the suspense going for a little while… and go back to the beginning of the day. Yesterday was a REST day. Loved it – needed it – and am ready to get back to intervals today!

It OBVIOUSLY started off with a bowl deliciously cold oats.

Ahh. These were truly amazing. I’ve been having hot oats for the past few days because I just wasn’t up for the chilling/overnighting part when I was in Rhode Island. (I will recap more of the trip someday.. soon).

After my tummy was full, Justin and I set out on our excursion. See… I am was in the market for a new.. CAR!

I’ve been pondering the idea of getting a new car for white a while now. I kind of sort of HATE(D) that my civic had two doors. Two doors just wasn’t fitting into my life. I need a car with four doors. A car with more space.

Additionally – you may remember the problems I had with my car in June. My warranty will be running out in October – and I was nervous that there would be a snowball of problems that could be quite costly.

So – we set out to test drive some cars. I’ve been doing a lot of research online so I knew exactly which brands and which cars I wanted to test drive.

Four-five hours later… I was saying GOODBYE to Gertie (short for Gertrude.. my beloved Civic). This was totally unexpected and a complete roller coaster.

I test drove some cars and sat down with our salesperson. We negotiated back and forth – and there were points where I was on the verge of tears. (Okay..maybe when the salesman left.. I actually shed some). You see… I have some extreme anxieties about money – so purchasing a big ticket item like a car was seriously giving me heart palpitations!

But – after weighing the positives and negatives and seeing numbers that totally fit into my budget… I John Hancocked many papers.

After getting all of the paperwork done… this boy was HUNGRY!

So we went for a walk..to a nearby deli for some lunch.

Yummy turkey, lettuce, onion, and mustard on whole wheat with an apple and black cherry seltzer.. my new fave!!
P1030832.JPG
Check out the massive amounts of turkey that were LEFTOVER from my sandwich. I grew up have one or two slices of deli meat on my sandwiches.. and that is how I like them now, too!

Believe it or not – we were actually able to take my new car home YESTERDAY! Since I had not planned on getting the car yesterday.. I hadn’t cleaned Gertie out – so we transferred a lot of stuff into my new baby.

Her name is Bonnie. We then named Justin’s car Clyde. Bonnie and Clyde.

While I would LOVE to share with you my fabulous new car – I’ve learned a lot recently from Julie’s blogging tips - particularly the one of blogger safety. For my own protection, I am opting NOT to share with you my car! So sorry.. but I promise it is fantastic!

We drove my brand spankin’ new car to my parents’ house to show it off.. and get the title to my car which was stored in momma’s safety deposit box. And stopped at Costco on our way home..

Annnd finally enjoyed a late night dinner of turkey burgers and salads.
P1030839.JPG
Yeah. So… I bought a car yesterday. Totally not my plan.

I just don’t know WHAT happened!!!

Today – we are OFF to the YANKEE GAME! Woohoo! Love having Justin home on vacation!!

Hooray for a new car!! I bought my first car 2 years ago, and I still remember that excitement!

Yes.. it is exciting. But I was super stressed too! I bought my Civic 3 years ago – and was torn because I haven’t owned it for long – but knew a small two door car was not really practical for me – especially with snowy winters. I know we have snow days.. but I still got stuck a couple of times this winter! I am definitely happy with my purchase :) :)

I never used to name them – but then I lived with some girls that did when I got my last car.. so we named her.. and the legacy continues ;)

Yep!! Just happened to me the other day. Went to the dealership on a whim and ended up trading in my car for a minivan (never thought I would be a minivan kinda mom but it’s really necessary if you plan on having more than 2 kids)… And don’t even get me started on money. I have major money spending anxiety.

I feel you on the non car payments! I bought my civic straight out three years ago and totally can’t do that again! So The new car payment was definitely something that was stressing me! But we did out the numbers and it will be just fine!

Aw, I used to have a 4-runner named Gertrude.. She died in a bad accident. oops.

I’ve had my car for 4 years in October, and while I’d love to get a new car there is nothing wrong with mine. Plus, I financed it for about a billion & a half years, so I still owe another few years on it. =/ My car was a total impulse “I can do what I want and there is no one to stop me” buy.. The 2dr does annoy me sometimes, but I get out of driving a lot of places since it’s only 2 dr, ;-)

Have fun @ the Yankee game!!

Ooh no! I am sorry that your Gertrude had such a tragic end to her life! I didn’t have any payments on my civic …. So I now have another thing to budget with my new car…but it fits in and I won’t be putting out more then I am taking in.. So I suppose this will be okay

Ack! Girl! Congratulations :D That’s super exciting, and I’m so happy for you!! I can totally relate to having a lot of anxieties when it comes to big purchases. I just recently bought a condo and omigosh the stressssss. It’s probably the biggest purchase I’ll ever make and the thought of paying mortgage for the next 30 years was totally giving me heart palpitations as well lol. But it was so very worth it :D

How exciting! Each time I have ‘looked’ for a new car, I have ended up driving home with one that day, except for this last time, when I had Lee with me…who is much more level-headed and made the car buying process last a few weeks! I was dying!!!!

Whoa!! That reminds me of my boyfriend. He’s a huge impulse buyer. For small & big things. Except yours wasn’t exactly an impulse buy since you needed it..but the fact it was random is still amazing! I have to research any purchase like that for weeks, even months before finally buying while he’s like “this looks good, let’s get it.” That’d seriously give me a heart attack!

Good thinking not showing your car, either. You never know!

Yay for the new car!! :) How exciting!! I have made quite a few impulse purchases but none as big as a car. I drunkenly booked and boarded a flight to Malta with a friend once… that was pretty spur of the moment! ;D

I am actually very tight with my money. I am all about saving and I hate when unexpected large expenses come my way! I try to always plan out what I am going to buy and then I save, save, save so that when I actually buy I do so in cash not credit! :D
