Week 2: DONE!!
Let’s rewind to my long run this morning..
On the schedule was 7 miles. I was excited to run with Kaitlin – yet also a little nervous. I mean… I’ve never run with another person – unless it was doing laps at a soccer practice.
We both had similar fears – holding another person back – or feelings of being held back by the other person. We decided we would just see what happened – if someone wanted to take off, then so be it!
Then as I was leaving … I didn’t know whether to bring my iPod or not. I did. Sorry.. just can’t run 7 miles without music.
I was surprised with my time… in a good way (kind of).
- Mile 1: 8:27
- Mile 2: 8:02
- Mile 3: 8:15
- Mile 4: 8:44
- Mile 5: 8:49
- Mile 6: 8:27
- Mile 7: 8:19
In case you are curious – we ran into a little road race during miles 2 & 3.. Being competitive – we both picked up our paces because we wanted to pass people. This was good to get some speed work in (I suppose ) but we paid for it during miles 4 & 5.

My average pace was 8:26/mi and I finished the 7 miles in 59:06. Not a bad way to start off a Saturday.
Now let’s get to the other stuff…
13.2 WEEK 2!

So I ran a few more miles then I planned, but I always expect this.
I know the one thing that is GLARING you in the face. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REST DAY!
I’ve been under a lot of stress lately. Yesteday was a stressful day too. Working out not only helped to relieve my stress — but it also kept me busy. When you are stressed about something – being busy helps. Since I am on summer vacation – working is NOT really something that I can use to keep busy. (Yes, I did wish I was working at some points.)
Good news is.. my calf felt great this week!! I took extra time stretching it – and rolled it with my foam roller regularly. Whatever the reasoning was behind it. I am very glad that it was short-lived!!
Now let’s take a look at what is coming my way next week!

I have already made some changes – like adding in a rest day. Like I said – I REALLY needed to work off some stress yesterday – and even though I didn’t run, I needed to rest.
My plan is to rest tomorrow – but I may go for a jog to loosen up my legs depending how they feel. And i LOVE running near the beach. And since I will be there.. welll .. I don’t want to pasts up the opportunity!!
I’ve also found a bunch of races that I may throw in along the way as I progress in my training. I mean – I don’t necessarily plan to do these at a race speed.. but rather to replace my long runs and just run in a different atmosphere… we shall see!
There is a 9 mile run and a 10 mile race on at the end of August and early Sept respectively… and they are only $8.00. (And are a part of the series that Kaitlin and I bumped into today!) PLUS there is a 10k in my home town that I may run on a week where I may cut back my miles – closer to my half!!

It’s time to hit the road, friends!
Have a LOVELY weekend
Are you training for any races right now?! How is it going? Do you ever use other races as a form of training?.

I’ve been wanting to do a 1/2 forever, but everytime I find a race, it’s full!! I need to get in the know about races in my area lol

I am running in a small one. I mean.. I won’t get a medal or anything – but I also won’t feel as much pressure.. I don’t think!
Glad it went well! That mile 2 pace is totally impressive!!!
I just registered for the annual Thanksgiving Half. I had several friends say they were in too… I think I’m the only one signed up thus far though.

Ooh! A half at Thanksgiving looks fun!
It is pretty chilly up here by that time..but there are tons of turkey trots!
What/where is that 10K? I think it’s so hard to find 10K’s so if that one is somewhat nearby for me I may look into it!
Nice job on the run today, enjoy the beach!

My first buddy run ever was when Michael first moved in. He was more worried he’d hold me back and I had the same fear admittedly. Not that I think I’m some fantastic runner or anything like that, but we both knew I run a lot more than he does. Surprisingly, he kept up! But so far, he’s more for speed than distance. Anyway, turns out buddy runs aren’t so bad..and now I’m to the point I actually miss him when we’re not running together! I get bored!

I think everyone fears of holding people back or holding other people back. Justin and I actually just went out for a run this morning.. in a rain!! It was so much fun!
My training plan calls for a half marathon race as a training run, but I get so tired after races that I opted to run 13 by myself
Races are so expensive, too!

Totally agree – I think even if the race is just for a long run.. it is hard not to compete!!
Yay I am so glad it went well, and congrats on finishing on week 2!
I am debating running xc in school this upcoming semester so if I decide not to, I am going to run a half-marathon near me in September!

Oooh. Cross country is something that never sparked my fancy!! Have you run XC previously in college?
Sorry that you’ve been stressed lately! I’m sure you’ll feel better after you come back from your mini trip!

I’ve never done a race! I’m kind of afraid to sign up for one because sometimes my stomach can’t handle running, and I never know when that will happen. Good job with your running! I totally understand the whole working out b/c you are stressed thing- I do that too. Hope you have fun at the beach!

Maybe you can start off with a shorter race – like a 5K… I mean if it is something that you are interested in, of course!
Hope you have a relaxing Sunday!
Caaaaaaaait! Awesome first buddy run!!! Ah, I still haven’t got a training plan for my first half at the end of Sept….get on that ASAP! I wish I could workout everyday and not have a rest day, but honestly after working long days at work, it feels like I’ve already worked out (per se), so I can barely function to get in a workout.
Friggen keep up the good work super star!!!! And don’t stress

You will do just fine in your half! I am just lucky enough to have lots of time off to do these runs. You are the superstar for all of the hard work that you are doing!
I’m training for any races, because, generally I don’t run races beyond 5ks
I do think that using races as part of your training would be a fun way to train though!
I hope you’re having a loooooovely weekend, my friend!

I love running w/ a friend; fortunately the few people I run w/ run a pretty similar pace so I don’t worry to much about holding anyone back.
Your training is going well! I would use the word training very lightly when talking about what I’m doing to prepare for the half that I signed up for in November.. Hopefully it will get better. It has to get better. That race is creeping up quickly
